Roadshow Promotions, who specialises in providing bespoke vehicles and logistical support for promotional campaigns, events and roadshows, helped Candlelighters, a charity that supports children and families facing childhood cancer in Yorkshire, to bring their Family Support Bus to Scarborough on Saturday, 12 June.
The Family Support Bus
is a mobile support vehicle that brings the benefits of The Square, the charity’s family support centre in Leeds, to families who live further away in the region. The bus was created by Roadshow Promotions in collaboration with Candlelighters, who wanted to have a mobile support vehicle that could offer therapies and information to families affected by childhood cancer.
The bus is based on a Dennis Dart single decker bus and has been fitted with two therapy rooms, a kitchenette and a waiting area. The bus can accommodate up to six people at a time and is wheelchair accessible. The bus also features a bright and colourful exterior design that reflects the charity’s logo and brand identity.
The bus offers a range of complimentary therapies, such as Indian head massage, acupressure chair massage, reflexology and holistic facials. These therapies are provided by qualified therapists who work at The Square or volunteer for the charity. The therapies are intended to help families cope with the stress and challenges of childhood cancer by improving their physical and mental wellbeing.
Support Hub
The family support bus also serves as a hub for information and advice for families who need guidance or support on various issues related to childhood cancer. The bus staff can provide information on topics such as benefits, education, travel and bereavement. The bus staff can also signpost families to other sources of support or services that may be available to them.
The family support bus is open to anyone who has been affected by childhood cancer, whether they are patients, ex-patients, parents, siblings or extended family members. The bus visits various locations across Yorkshire on a regular basis and invites families to join them at their organised locations.
Roadshow Promotions provided the driver and logistical support for the bus visit to Scarborough. The bus parked at the Scarborough Rugby Club and welcomed families from 10am to 4pm. Roadshow Promotions ensured that the bus was safe and comfortable for the visitors and that the journey was smooth and efficient.
One of the families who visited the bus was the Smith family from Scarborough. Their son Jack was diagnosed with leukaemia when he was four years old and has been undergoing treatment at Leeds Children’s Hospital. His mother Sarah said: “We are so grateful to Roadshow Promotions and Candlelighters for bringing the bus to Scarborough. It’s not easy for us to travel to Leeds often, so having access to these therapies and support close to our home is a blessing. We had a lovely time on the bus and felt very relaxed and pampered.”
Natasha Greenley, Managing Director of Roadshow Promotions, said: “We are proud to be able to support Candlelighters and their Family Support Bus service. We know how important it is for families to have access to this service and we want to make it possible for them to reach as many families as they can. The bus is a fantastic vehicle that we have customised to suit the charity’s needs and objectives.”
The Family Support Bus is funded by donations from the public and corporate sponsors. To find out more about the bus, where it is visiting next and how to book a therapy session, visit www.candlelighters.org.uk.
