In preparation for the upcoming educational outreach tour for Dancop, the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Collaborative Outreach Programme a partnership of several universities and colleges from across two counties, We moved RSP14 in to the bus conversion workshop to undertake the bus conversion work required on the double decker bus.
Dancop required the bus to have a small as possible carbon footprint as possible, undertake outreach activities with up to 3 individual groups at a time, each area having its own Audio Visual system, a wheelchair accessible area and finally a staff area, overall a big task for a big bus!
We devised a way to split the upper saloon in to two distinct areas, which could, on the fly, be removed providing a full open plan upper saloon including 3 individual or group managed LED TV systems and some storage.
On the lower saloon we installed an 8 desk classroom area with swing out LED TV, workspace for a wheelchair user and combined kitchen/office to the forward driver area.
For the “green” aspect instead of the usual built-in generator we installed a second alternator to the engine which in turn pumped 24v electricity in to a bank of leisure batteries, to supplement the alternator we installed flexible solar panels to the roof, which on a sunny day would produce up to 1kw of electricity, the leisure batteries and solar panels were tied in to a 5kw invertor.
Last but not least we added 20 Chromebook laptops, with secure storage and 50GB per month mobile broadband Wi-Fi router.
Finally we helped design the interior and exterior branding and applied it pre-tour.
